STANDISH, ME - St. Joe's Swim Team Head Coach
Rebecca Biggs has released her team award recipients for the
2007-08 season.
Sophomore Lindsay D'Ascanio
(Kennebunk, ME), this season's GNAC Rookie of the Year winner, has
been named as the Women's Swimming Most Valuable Player.
D'Ascanio was named as the GNAC Rookie of the Week five times
during the season, won both of her individual events at the GNAC
Championships and set a meet record in the 50-meter butterfly event
with a time of 28.96. The rookie swimmer earned 17 individual first
place finishes and 9 relay top finishes for the first-year varsity
program. D'Ascanio participated in the New England Championship
Finals in the six different events, three individual and three
relay, and finished in thirteenth place in the 50-fly with a time
of 29.77.
Sophomore Lindsay Bates
(Waterville, ME) has been tabbed the Women's Swimming Most Improved
Player after earning two individual top finishes, both in the
100-free, and two relay first place finishes for the Royal Blue
swim program this season. Bates participated in the New England
Championship Finals as a member of the 200-free, 200-medley,
800-free and 400-free relay teams.
Women's team captains for the 2008-09 season will be
Bates, JR Ashton
Piers (Falmouth, ME) and SO
Danielle Harmon (Poland, ME).
Junior Nick Zecher (Mansfield,
MA) is the 2007-08 Men's Swimming Most Valuable Player. Zecher
earned a first place finish in the 400-free at Elms College on
December 8th and finished in second five times this year for Coach
Biggs.
Junior Pat Decola (Methuen, MA)
receives the 2007-08 Men's Swimming Most Improved honor. DeCola
took home first place finishes in the 50-back and 50-fly events at
Elms College and finished in second twice during the season.
Zecher and DeCola will share the
2008-09 Men's team captain duties.
