St. Joe's Swimmers Kick Off Season at Colby Sawyer

NEW LONDON, NH - The Saint Joseph's men's swim team opened the 2008-09 season with a 42-154 loss to Colby Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon. The men's team broke team records in the 50 fly, 50 back, 100 back, 100 free and 200 free events.

First year Kevin Towne '12 (Shrewsbury, MA) led the men's squad with 16 points and recorded second-place finishes in both the 50 back (29.72) and 100 back (1:19.50) events, with the latter being a new SJC men's record. Nick Zecher '09 (Mansfield, MA), who set a new mark in the 100 free with a 1:00.01 time, and Jordan Simenas '12 (Cambridge, MA) both chipped in with 14 points in the meet. Pat DeCola '09 (Methuen, MA) added 12 points on the day and broke his own records in the 50 fly (32.92) and 50 back (36.99) events.

With a 2:23.75 in the 200 free, Kieran O'Connell '12 (Gloucester, MA) shattered Kris Hanks' mark of 2:44.15, which was set at Regis College on November 18th, 2007.
