STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College has announced the hiring
of Rick Horr as head men's and women's swimming coach.
Horr, a native of Portland, Maine and a 1996 graduate of Deering
High School, most recently served as the assistant swimming coach
at University of New England. Prior to his stint with the
Nor'easters, Horr was the head coach of the Deering High boys swim
team for seven seasons. As the head coach of the Rams, his teams
posted a 44-8-1 record and won three Maine Class A State
Championships. In 2003 he earned both Maine Swim League Coach of
the Year and Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram Coach of
the Year honors.
"This is an exciting time for our swim program," adds Athletic
Director Brian Curtin. "We are pleased to have Rick join our staff
and look forward to him grabbing the reins and play a significant
role in the swim team's progress."
Horr succeeds Rebecca Biggs as the head coach of the program, which
is entering its second year as a NCAA D III varsity sport as a
member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
