Men's Swimming Defeats Gordon College, 141-80

WENHAM, MA – The Saint Joseph's men's swim team notched the program's second victory with a 141-80 triumph over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine) broke the program record in the 50-Breast (29.98) and participated in the team's record 200-Medley relay effort in the triumph.

Gaulin won the 50-Breast and also posted a top finish in the 100-Breast (1:06.24) while Kevin Towne '12 (Shrewsbury, Mass.) won the 200-Back (2:15.45) and 50-Back (27.79) and finished second in the 50-Fly (27.24). Thomas Smith '14 (New Hartford, Conn.) also performed well and finished second in the 500-Free (5:40.82) and 50-Breast (32.46) events.

The freshman trio of Chris Cullity (North Reading, Mass.), Antonio Delvecchio (Middlebury, Conn.) and John Holmes (Norwood, Mass.) accounted for six individual victories on the afternoon. Cullity won the 1000-Free (11:16.03) and 500-Free (5:28.71), Holmes won the 100-Free (54.00) and 50-Free (25.32), and Delvecchio notched top finishes in the 200-Free (1:57.02) and 50-Fly – with a new program record effort (26.73) - and also placed second in the 100-Fly (1:03.47).

Towne, Gaulin, Delvecchio and Holmes combined to notch a top finish in the 200-Medley relay with a 1:45.66 effort, a time that also counts as a new team record.

Saint Joseph's is off until the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championship, a three-day event that begins on February 17th in White River Junction, Vermont.
