Monks Fall in Men's Swimming Opener, 126-118

STANDISH, ME – Elms College tipped Saint Joseph's, 126-118, in a men's swimming dual meet at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) recorded his first NCAA victory and broke three program records in the narrow defeat.

Gilvey posted a 58.36 effort to win the 100-Back and added runner-up times in the 100-Fly (57.91) and 200-IM (2:11.68) while besting team bests in all three events.

Junior Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine) won the 50-Breast (29.53) and 100-Breast (1:06.30) and placed third in the 200-IM (2:15.53) and sophomore Antonio Delvecchio (Middlebury, Conn.) won the 100-Free (52.01) and placed second in the 200-Free (1:54.20) and 50-Fly (26.42).

Sophomore Chris Cullity (North Reading, Mass.) won the 1000-Free (11:16.24) and finished as the runner-up in the 500-Free (5:24.65) while sophomore Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) notched second-place times in the 50-Back (29.34) and 50-Free (25.01) and was third in the 50-Fly (26.42) and junior captain Thomas Smith (New Hartford, Conn.) finished as the runner-up in the 50-Breast (32.36) and was third in the 1000-Free (11:37.60).

The Monks kicked off the afternoon with a top finish in the 200-Medley relay (1:45.61), featuring Gilvey, Gaulin, Delvecchio and Bowden and the meet was not decided until the final event, the 200-Free relay, which Elms won by 1:15 to claim the victory. Cullity, Smith, Stewart Emery (Augusta, Maine) and Evan Wright (Preston, Conn.) competed in the meet-closing relay for the Royal Blue.

Saint Joseph's will host Regis College on Saturday, November 17th at 1:00 PM.
