Men Fall to Gordon College, 131-111

WENHAM, MA – Gordon College topped Saint Joseph's College, 131-111, in men's swimming action on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Ian Riddell (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) headlined the event for the Monks with top finishes in the 50-Free (24.09) and 100-Free (53.48) events while sophomore Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) won the 50-Back (27.10) and finished second in the 200-Back (2:09.42) and 200-IM (2:13.50) races.

Freshman Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) broke his 100-Fly record – again – and won the event with a 56.14 effort and placed second in the 100-Breast (1:08.36) competition and junior Chris Cullity (North Reading, Mass.) won the 1000-Free with an 11:04.19 time.

Other top performers included junior Stewart Emery (Augusta, Maine), who placed second in the 200-Free (2:05.82), and junior Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) was the runner-up in the 50-Back (28.22) and 50-Fly (27.17) events.

Also, sophomore Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) recorded NEISDA 'A' cut times in the 100-Fly and the 50-Free and freshman Dakota Dupuis (Dedham, Maine) – who has steadily improved all season long - posted a NEISDA provision 'B' cut in the 50-Fly.

Saint Joseph's caps the 2013-14 season when the team competes in the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at University of Rhode Island, which begins on Friday, February 14th.
