ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Saint Joseph's College junior Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) became the first Monks swimmer to compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships at the United State Naval Academy on Saturday morning.
Johnson, who qualified for the regional championship – and set a team record - with a 54.45 effort in a 100-Fly time trial at the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships last Saturday, posted a 54.85 time in the 100-Fly in an ECAC preliminary yesterday.
"(Going to the ECAC Championships) was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had and I'm very grateful to Coach (Margaret) Howe, the Athletics Department, and the institution for making the trip possible," adds Johnson. "I'd also like to thank everyone – especially my teammates - who supported me through this process. A special thank you for the support from those who made the trip to Annapolis: my parents and my suite mates, Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) and Primo Lombardi (Hampstead, N.H.)."
