WENHAM, MA - Saint Joseph's earned a 7th place
finish with 243 team points in the 37th Annual Pop Crowell
Invitational hosted by Gordon College. In a "photo finish,"
Ryan Prescott '09 (Pittsfield,
NH) placed second in the event behind Roger Williams runner Kevin
Clark. Clark paced all runners with a 26:22 time in the 8K event
and Prescott finished right behind him just a
split second off the pace as both runners dove across the finish
line.
Prescott's time in the event is the best mark he
has posted this season and is the third-best in the 37-year history
of the Pop Crowell Invitational. Kenyan Felix Cheriuyot of Roberts
Wesleyan holds the top time and ran the course in 26:06 in
1999.
University of Southern Maine won the event with 58 team points as
two Huskies runners finished in the top 10.
Jeremy Allen '10 (Rutland, VT)
and Bobby Britten '12
(Scarborough, ME) were the next two SJC runners to finish.
Allen placed 54th overall and ran the event in
28:56 while Britten was just one second behind and
finished 55th. First-year runner Vincent
Micucci '09 (Yarmouth, ME) ran the course in 29:25
and placed 69th for St. Joe's.
In all, 232 athletes from 24 New England area colleges participated
in the event.
Saint Joseph's will host the Runnin' Monks Invitational next
Saturday, October 11th. The women's teams will kick off the day at
11:00 AM and the men will follow with an 11:45 AM start.
