Monks compete in UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled to North Dartmouth for the 50th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational.

This event was separated into sub-varsity and varsity contests leading to the Runnin' Monks taking part in three races throughout the day.

The men posted 732 points finishing 24th out of 39 scoring teams. Sophomore Jacob Pelletier (Augusta, Maine) continues to exceed the standard for the Monks running a 26:23 which is one of the fastest men's times seen out of the program, in the past decade, since Troy Hendricks in 2019 (26:41). Pelletier placed 69th out of 303 runners.

The women coasted through the sub-varsity race led by Terry Cassetta for the Monks with a 25:27 to set a massive personal best for the third-year captain.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

The Terriers of Boston University took home the crown today posting 42 points with an average team time of 24:48 with the help of junior Robert Hannon (24:14) placing second and senior Michael Hagen following in behind for third (24:28).

Wondu Summa of Franklin Pierce took home the individual win with a 24:04 effort.

The Monks were the top-scoring team out of their GNAC conference competitors today finishing 24th overall out of the 39 teams made up of Division I – III schools.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 118th (27:21)
  • Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine) was 139th  with his 27:48 effort
  • Senior Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) finished 244th (31:20)
  • Junior Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was 255th (32:13)
  • Freshman Emislon Zocolo (Lewiston, Maine) finished 270th (34:14)
  • Freshman Jacob Schmader (Limmington, Maine) was 270th (34:21)
  • Freshman Michael Morin (Merrimack, N.H.) placed 277th (35:49)

SUB VARSITY FINISHERS

 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

UMass Lowell swept the top five spots of the Sub-Varsity 5K competition rounding out the race with a team score of 15 points, ahead of Connecticut College who collected 60 points for the sub-varsity event. UMass Lowell's very own Mary-Kate Finn won the race as an individual with a 17:45 mark (which would've placed her fifth overall in the Varsity Race).

The Lady Monks did not collect a team score due to limited numbers.

 FOR THE MONKS:

  • Junior Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished 95th (25:27)
  • Freshman Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) was 105th (27:41)
  • Junior Alexia Smith (Scarborough, Maine) placed 117th (32:59)
  • Freshman Haley Lang (New Gloucester, Maine) was 118th (35:51)

The Monks will be taking a weekend off and returning September 30th, 2023 for the Maine State Championship hosted by Husson in Bangor Maine!
