Monks Compete in Suffolk Invitational

BOSTON, Massachusetts. – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's cross country teams posted 21st and 24th place finishes at The Suffolk Invitational at Franklin Park today. The men posted 569 points in the 8K race while the women came in with 696 points in the 6K event.

 

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

Unattached-Umass Lowell runner, Landen Vaillancourt, took over the men's race with a 25:24 finish with Chris Gould of Colby College 18 seconds behind for second place (25:42). Gordon Doore of Colby College finished just behind his teammate for third place (25:46).

With both Colby College runners placing second and third the Men's team took the crown winning the meet with 38 points. UMass Lowell finished second (94) followed by Bowdoin (112).

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Junior Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed 87th (27:21)
  • Freshman Tyler Wright (Chatham, Mass.) was 152nd (29:52)
  • Senior Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) finished 178th (30:46)
  • Freshman Diamond Doe (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed 197th (31:49)
  • Freshman Emislon Zocolo (Lewiston, Maine) finished 212th (32:42)
  • Junior Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was 215th (32:47)
  • Junior Jobet Tardiff (Windham, Maine) placed 230th (34:01)
  • Freshman Michael Morin (Merrimack, N.H.) placed 238th (35:02)
  • Freshman Chris Godefroy (Windsor Locks, Conn.) was 254th (38:46)
  • Freshman Colin Brown (Hardwick, Mass.) was 256th (39:23)

 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

The women's race came right down to the finish as the top three runners finished within 8 seconds of each other. Fransiscah Cherotich of American International led the women's field with an individual win touring the course in 22:59. Right behind Cherotich was Margaret St John following in three seconds behind for runner-up (23:02). Stephanie Chun of Bowdoin completed the podium with her third-place finish just five seconds behind Cherotich (23:07).

Colby took the team crown today with 62 points with rival NESCAC school Bowdoin right behind with 62 points as well. Wellesley finished third overall with 114 points.

 FOR THE MONKS:

  • Freshman Ava Moffett (Livermore Falls, Maine) was 166th (30:16)
  • Sophomore Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) placed 172nd (30:34)
  • Junior Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished 190th (25:27)
  • Freshman Haley Lang (New Gloucester, Maine) was 118th (35:51)
  • Junior Alexia Smith (Scarborough, Maine) placed 117th (32:59)

The Monks will take next weekend off and will be back to host the GNAC Championship on October 28th!
