Monks Place Eighth in 2023 GNAC Women's XC Championship

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College hosted the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships on the campus course on Saturday. The SJC women finished eighth with 172 team points in the 6K event while the St. Joe's men claimed the program's first-ever GNAC Championship with 44 points in the 8K race.

Colby-Sawyer College eclipsed the nine-team women's field with 35 points, well ahead of runner-up Regis College (81 points). Norwich University (110), Lasell University (113), Emmanuel College (118), Simmons University (125), Johnson & Wales (139), Saint Joseph's (172), and Dean College (272) rounded out the group of competing teams. University of Saint Joseph, Mitchell College, New England College, Elms College, and Rivier University also fielded individuals in the conference title meet but did not score.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Adriana Nadeau toured the 6K course in 25:23.1 to claim the GNAC individual crown and crossed the line over 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Kiara Cerruti of Lasell, who ran the course in 25:59.7.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Freshman Ava Moffett (Livermore Falls, Maine) paced the Monks and placed 23rd overall with a 30:11.4 performance
  • Sophomore Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) finished 26th with a 30:52.4 time
  • Junior Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) was 38th (32:45.3)
  • Freshman Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) raced to a 52nd place finish with a 34:57.7 effort
  • Junior Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) was 60th (37:14.3)
  • Freshman Haley Lang (New Gloucester, Maine) placed 62nd (37:47.5)
  • Junior Alexia Smith (Scarborough, Maine) finished 67th (40:01.1)

Saint Joseph's closes out the 2023 campaign with an appearance in the NCAA DIII East Regional Championship, which will be hosted at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds (N.H.) on Saturday, November 11th.
