STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Cross Country teams
kicked off the 2009 season by hosting a relay against University of
New England and a 5K event with Newbury, UNE, Southern Maine and
Mount Ida on Friday afternoon.
St. Joe's and UNE each made two mixed teams of eight runners for
the relay event, which consisted of eight different groups running
5K with three minute intervals on a wave start. The Nor'easters
defeated the Monks, 51-29, on a point system based on individual
finishes within the pairings. Jeremy
Allen '10 (Rutland, VT) toured the trail in 18:46
and was followed by teammates Andrew
Moravick '10 (Biddeford, ME) (21:33),
Andrew Mockler '12 (Saco, ME) and
Jeff Letellier '12 (Biddeford,
ME).
Nico Tarquinio '10 (Southbridge,
MA) paced the SJC runners with a time of 23:05 in the 5K open
event, good for a fourth-place finish. Three UNE runners - Jon
Dupuis (21:43), Jon Sargent (21:53) and Zach Pinkham (21:57) -
collected the top three places.
The Monks will travel to Biddeford, ME on Saturday, September 12th
to compete against University of New England at 11:30 PM.
