STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College hosted the Runnin' Monks Invitational on Saturday, with the women placing fourth (126 points) and the men sixth (172) in the annual event. Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) raced to a seventh place finish with a 22:05 effort and Jeremy Allen '10 (Rutland, VT) toured the 8K course in 29:48 to place 13th overall. Johnson & Wales (29 points) and University of Maine-Farmington (23) captured the men's and women's team crowns, respectively.

For the women, Rachel Sincebaugh of Maine Maritime cruised through the 5K course in 21:19 to collect individual honors and eke out runner-up Emily Farley from UMF by 14 seconds. The Beavers placed four runners in the top five and all five scoring runners in the top nine overall. Murphy , along with three runners from Johnson & Wales - Lindsay Panny (22:03, 6 th ), Alexandra Wessman (22:07, 8 th ), and Amanda Charbonneau (22:44, 10 th ), rounded out the top ten finishers for the women's race.

Johnson & Wales placed second with 56 team points and Lasell accumulated 121 points for a third place entry. University of Maine-Presque Isle (127 points), Lyndon State (134), Maine Maritime (149) and Rivier (197) rounded out the women's field. Thomas participated in the event but did not have enough runners to qualify.

Of note for St. Joe's, Shannon Marden '10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) turned in a solid 23:23 effort for an 18th place finish, Mary Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) posted a 24:19 time for 29th , and Claire Cook '10 (Sangerville, ME) was the 35th runner to cross the finish line with a 24:55 time.

For the men, Greg Redfield of Johnson & Wales sped to a nine-second victory over teammate James Vance to win the individual championship and Joshua Grant of Lyndon State finished third with a 27:45 effort. A pair of Wildcats participants, Jeff Hartman (28:49) and Nathan Smith (28:58), rounded out the top five and meant four of the top five runners in the event hailed from Johnson & Wales.

Lyndon State placed three athletes in the top ten and finished second with 56 team points and Maine Maritime raced to a third-place performance with 84 points. University of Maine-Farmington (96 points), Lasell (110), Daniel Webster (189) and Thomas (206) rounded out the men's scoring field. University of Maine-Presque Isle participated, but did not have enough runners to qualify.

Of note for the SJC men, Andrew Moravick '10 (Biddeford, ME) placed 38th with a 33:25 effort, Austin Martin '10 (Boca Raton, FL) toured the course in 33:45 to finish 41st and Jeff Letellier '12 (Biddeford, ME) was close behind with a 33:49 performance, good for 42nd overall.

Saint Joseph's will hit the trails next when the Monks participate in the State of Maine Championship, hosted by Colby College, on Saturday, October 17th.
