Men Finish 46th at NCAA Regional Race

GORHAM, ME – Saint Joseph's College placed 46th out of 50 participating colleges and universities in the NCAA DIII New England 8K Men's Cross Country Championship at the Narragansett School on Saturday.

Junior Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) led the Monks and finished 172nd out of 366 runners with a 28:07 performance while freshman Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) placed 246th (29:15) and sophomore Andrew Caron (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was 290th (30:04) in the regional race.

Sophomore Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) raced to a 318th-place (31:29) finish, junior Matt Boucher (Augusta, Maine) was 335th (32:44) and junior Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished 345th (33:37) for Saint Joseph's.

Williams College edged Middlebury College by the slimmest of margins, 77-78, to claim the NCAA Regional Championship. Ranked fifth and sixth nationally in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA DIII Poll, both Williams and Middlebury have earned automatic berths into next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship race in Hanover, Indiana

MIT placed third with 113 points, Tufts University was fourth with 142 and Bates College finished fifth with 158 points. All three programs could earn an at-large berth into the national championship and will learn of their fate on Sunday.

Connecticut College senior Michael LeDuc won the event with a 24:21 time and was followed by a pair of Williams runners in Colin Cotton (24:24) and Chris Lee (24:41). Bowdoin's Coby Horowitz (24:42) and Roy Wedge (24:42) of MIT rounded out the top five individual finishers.

The NCAA regional meet concludes the 2013 season for the Monks.
