GNAC Tabs van der Linden as Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced its weekly accolades and Saint Joseph's College senior shortstop Liddy van der Linden (Worcester, MA/St. Peter Marian) has received Player of the Week honors.

van der Linden played a huge role in a 6-0 week for the Monks, as the senior shortstop hit .476 (10-21) with eight runs, nine RBI, two doubles and three home runs, including a two-run blast late in the nightcap against St. Joseph (Conn.) on April 11th to help the Royal Blue set a new program record with 19 consecutive victories. She was 4-6 with four runs, four RBI two doubles and a long ball in a sweep over Pine Manor on April 10th and went 4-7 with two runs, three RBI and a homer in two wins over the Blue Jays the following day.

Through 28 games, van der Linden was hitting .374 (34-91) with 21 runs, seven doubles, a team-high seven homers, 28 RBI and a .681 slugging percentage.

With two wins over Simmons College on Monday, the Monks extended their program-record winning streak to an astounding 21 games. The former record of 18 straight wins was set in 1990 and broken on Sunday when the Royal Blue completed a sweep of St. Joseph (Conn.) in a conference doubleheader.

Saint Joseph's (25-5, 18-0 GNAC) will look to extend the streak when they play a conference twinbill at Lasell College (14-16-1, 10-6 GNAC) on Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
