St. Joe's Softball Team Thinks Pink!

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Softball team held a "Think Pink" event on April 19, 2010, during their games with Emerson College to promote increased breast cancer awareness and to raise money for a local breast cancer charity.

The team sold pink t-shirts a week before the game and went all-out on game day, decked out in the pink t-shirts, pink socks, pink shoelaces, pink ribbons in their hair, and pink eye-black.

The Monks coaching staff sported pink polo shirts and it was great to look beyond the players and coaches on the field to the event staff, to the spectators up in the stands and see, literally, a sea of pink!

Emerson College contributed by purchasing shirts for their team to wear as well, as did a number of the Emerson parents.  The Emerson coaching staff and the officials who worked the game wore pink ribbons on their clothing in recognition of the cause.

The team had placed donation canisters (which the grandmother of one of the players had decorated in pink foil and pink ribbons) at four locations on campus a week before the games and these were circulated during the games resulting in additional monies being collected.

As a result of this overwhelming team effort, $1800 will be donated by Saint Joseph's College Softball to the Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute Breast Care Center in Portland, Maine.
