St. Joe’s Softball Gains Academic Honor

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's College Softball team has been recognized for achieving academic excellence by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

St. Joe's was one of 94 NCAA DIII programs to earn 2010 Girls Got Game/NFCA All-Academic honors and is one of three Great Northeast Athletic Conference teams to be recognized by the national organization. Emerson and Simmons also received recognition.

Seven SJC players were also honored as NCAA DIII Scholar-Athletes: Christy Wezowicz '10 (Granville, MA), Jillian Kimball '10 (Albany Township, ME), Liddy van der Linden '10 (Worcester, MA), Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME), Madylan Kluna '12 (Standish, ME), Kirin Schrum '13 (Littleton, NH) and Danyelle Shufelt '13 (Sutton, VT).

In order to receive individual honors, players must achieve a 3.50 GPA during the 2009-10 academic year.

Saint Joseph's posted a 30-10 overall record and went 21-3 in GNAC play in 2010 under Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92, who is entering his 13th season with the Monks.
