Hendrix Named ECAC First Team All-New England

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's sophomore outfielder/pitcher Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) First Team All-New England honors as a utility player.

Hendrix was a key player for the Monks last spring, in both the batter's box and the pitching circle. With the bat, she paced the Royal Blue in on-base percentage (.481), triples (7) and walks (15) and ranked second on the squad in batting average (.418, 48-116), hits (48) doubles (14), total bases (91), and slugging percentage (.784). As a hurler, Hendrix went 4-0 with a pair of saves and fanned 29 batters – while yielding just 15 hits and five walks – in 33 innings and tossed the first seven-inning perfect game in program history, sitting all 21 batters she faced in a 2-0 win over Simmons College on April 21st.

Hendrix, who missed her entire freshman season with an injury, has made up for lost time with several high honors this year. She claimed First Team All-GNAC accolades after being selected as the conference Rookie of the Week four times last spring and was chosen as the GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player for her role during the Monks' three conference tourney victories.

Under the guidance of 15th-year Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92 last spring, the Monks went 33-9 overall and 23-3 in GNAC play en route to capturing the team's second conference crown in as many seasons. The 2012 club, which outscored opponents by a whopping 285-75 margin and recorded 14 mercy-rule victories, advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season but bowed out of tourney contention in the Amherst Regional with hardfought losses at the hands of Keene State and Keuka College.
