Simmons advances to the winner's bracket and will take on Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 3:00 PM.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks secured a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Hannah Gosselin (Biddeford, Maine) led off with a single and later scored on an infield error. After two scoreless innings, the Sharks exploded for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third, as Jordyn Rubin and Maddie Castigliego produced two-run singles to lift the hosts to a 4-1 advantage.

St. Joe's fought back with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings as Owen notched an RBI ground out in the former and junior Lydia Goodnough (Kennebunkport, Maine) delivered a run-scoring single in the later to make it a one-run game.

Simmons gained a bit of breathing room in the bottom of the fifth when Shannon McMahon led off with a double to left and later scored on a Teagan Buckley ground out to second base.

The Monks had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh, but Simmons pitcher Piper Kinney fanned a pair of SJC batters to close out the threat.
