Monks Qualify for USCSA Eastern Regionals

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's alpine skiing team has qualified to compete in the 2020 United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships, which will be held at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine this Saturday and Sunday.

Led by Head Coach Margot Cosentino, the Monks enjoyed a stellar season as a first-year varsity program and posted five third-place finishes as a member of the Reynolds Division this winter.

First-year skiers Annie Cerminaro (Unityville, Pa.) and Jillian Luby (Wolfeboro, N.H.) both finished in the Reynolds Division individual top 10, as Cerminaro – who posted one runner-up effort and placed third in four different races – capped the regular season in fifth place with 521 total points and Luby finished 10th with 216 points.

All four of the Monks' skiers finished in the top 20 individually, as freshman Sarah Lachance (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Sarah Hotchkiss (New Durham, N.H.) placed 16th (103 pts) and 19th (97), respectively.

On the men's side, freshman Tucker Davis (South Berwick, Maine) closed out his first college season in 20th place with 108 points. He posted a personal-best 12th-place finish in a giant slalom event at Shawnee Peak on February 2nd.

Three Reynolds Division women's programs qualified for the 2020 Eastern Regionals, as UMaine-Farmington and Bowdoin College will also be competing at Sugarloaf this weekend.

The top five teams from this weekend's regional championship will advance to the USCSA Nationals, which will be held in Lake Placid, New York starting on Monday, March 9th. The top finishing individual who is not a member of the top five teams also earns a bid to the national event.
