SJC Women Finish Sixth in Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championships

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's alpine ski team finished sixth with a 6:04.71 aggregate time in the USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship at Sugarloaf Mountain on Sunday.

With the finish, the Monks – who placed seventh in the slalom race on Saturday – placed sixth overall with 13 place points and have qualified for the USCSA National Championships, which will be held in California at Mammoth Mountain starting on Monday, March 6th.

Clarkson University claimed the Giant Slalom Championship with a 5:33.72 composite effort while Babson College (5:35.52), Castleton University (5:38.90), Northeastern University (5:50.26), and University of Connecticut (5:52.06) rounded out the top five teams in Sunday's race.

Individually, Emilie Stene from Castleton placed first with a 1:46.37 performance while Babson's Lauren Abdow finished second (1:46.97), and Clarkson's Hannah Goetz posted a third-place finish (1:47.78).

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Junior Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) placed 17th with a 1:58.39 (58.78, 59.61) time
  • Junior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) finished 21st with a 1:58.88 (58.20, 1:00.68) performance
  • Junior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) was 36th with a 2:07.44 (1:03.54, 1:03.90) effort
  • Junior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) placed 37th (2:09.07, 1:03.33 – 1:05.74)
  • Freshman Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) finished 46th (2:15.22, 1:05.81 – 1:09.41)
