Alpine Program Sweeps SJC Team GPA Awards

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that the Monks' men's and women's alpine ski teams have won the department's annual Team GPA Awards.

The women's team posted a 3.69 composite grade-point average while the SJC men registered a 3.51 GPA. The impressive cumulative marks paced the Monks' 21 varsity programs (11 women, 10 men), which combined to register a remarkable 3.38 overall GPA.

The ski teams' academic efforts were buoyed by a total of nine USCSA Scholar All-America honorees between the two teams. On the women's side, Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.), Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.), Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.), Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine), Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine), and Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) claimed the high academic honor.

For the men, Jacob Morris (North Woodstock, N.H.), Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.), and Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) collected the USCSA accolade, which is bestowed upon members of teams that advanced to the National Championships and have a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher.

As a fourth-year varsity program, and for the second-consecutive season, Saint Joseph's sent the men's and women's teams to the USCSA National Championships after both teams placed in the top seven in the USCSA Regionals at Sugarloaf Mountain on February 18-19th.

Under the watch of Head Coach Margot Cosentino, the SJC women finished 15th and the Monks' men placed 22nd in the USCSA Slalom National Championships at Mammoth Mountain (Calif.) on Thursday, March 9th.

The Saint Joseph's men's team won six races this winter and claimed the USCSA Reynolds Division Championship with 12 points, three ahead of UMaine-Farmington, while the St. Joe's women placed second in the Reynolds standings with 16 points, three behind the Beavers' tally, after winning a pair of events with seven runner-up performances during the 2023 campaign.
