SJC Men Finish Third in USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's alpine ski team raced to a third-place finish with a 5:19.68 composite time in the USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday.

Vermont State University – Castleton placed four of the top five finishers and led the 16-team field with a 5:03.80 time, nearly seven seconds ahead of runner-up Babson College, which posted a 5:10.27 composite time. Saint Joseph's, Clarkson University (5:20.58), and UMass.-Amherst (5:20.90) rounded out the top five institutions.

Castleton's Raphael Fischer secured the individual GS championship with a 1:40.82 effort while his teammate, Lorenzo Mencaccini, took second with a 1:41.03 time. Ryan Beardsley, from Babson, placed third with a 1:41.81 performance.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Senior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) paced the Monks and finished eighth overall with a 1:44.06 (53.36, 50.70) effort
  • Sophomore Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.) finished 13th with a 1:46.24 (55.05, 51.19) performance
  • Sophomore Logan Davis (Naples, Maine) was 22nd (1:49.38, 55.25 / 54.13)
  • Senior Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.) placed 38th (1:58.53, 1:02.22 / 56.31)
  • Sophomore Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) posted a DNF on the second run after notching a 56.24 time on the first bid

Saint Joseph's will compete in the USCSA Eastern Regional Slalom Championship at Sugarloaf tomorrow. The event begins at 9:30 AM.
