SJC Alpine Teams Post Second-Place Finishes at Sugarloaf

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College alpine ski teams finished second in giant slalom races at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday. The Monks' men posted 22 team points and a 5:39.21 composite time while the SJC women tallied 13 team points and a 6:18.02 aggregate time.

UMaine-Farmington swept the day with wins on both sides, as the UMF men earned the victory with six place points and a 5:24.64 total time after placing the top four individuals in Jacob Roy (1:47.23), Sam Roy (1:48.26), Lake Lindelof (1:49.15), and Simon Spear (1:50.64). 

The UMF women tallied eight points and a 6:07.02 total time to cap the sweep. UMF's Lauren Kessen (1:57.23) and Grace Mahmood (2:01.04) placed first and third, respectively, while Colby College's Charlotte Turner rounded out the podium with a second-place finish (1:58.88).

THE RUNDOWN - MEN:

  • Freshman Jack Price (Franconia, N.H.) placed sixth (1:51.69, 55.83 – 55.86)
  • Sophomore Jacob Morris (Woodstock, N.H.) finished eighth (1:52.23, 56.74 – 55.49)
  • Junior Aidan Wolfinger (Bedford, N.H.) was 11th (1:55.29, 57.62 – 57.67)
  • Sophomore Dimitri Southworth (Biddeford, Maine) placed 25th (2:08.49, 1:04.84 – 1:03.65)
  • Freshman Jacob Gilmore (Naples, Maine) was 33rd (2:32.68, 1:12.87 – 1:19.81)
  • Junior Liam Strobeck (Charlotte, Vt.) was second on the first run (53.73) but took a DNF on the second
  • Three other SJC skiers posted a DNF or DQ'ed: Caleb Gorton (Goffstown, N.H.), Colin Rathbone (Groton, Mass.), and Logan Davis (Naples, Maine); all four Monks who did not score have recorded podium finishes this winter

THE RUNDOWN - WOMEN:

  • Junior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) placed fourth with a 2:03.87 (59.90, 1:03.97) time
  • Sophomore Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) finished fifth with a 2:04.95 (1:00.89, 1:04.06) effort
  • Junior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) was 10th (2:09.20, 1:03.50 – 1:05.70)
  • Junior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) posted an 11th-place finish (2:11.53, 1:06.66 – 1:04.87)
  • Freshman Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) placed 14th (2:13.62, 1:05.51 – 1:08.11)
  • Sophomore Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) was 21st (2:20.02, 1:08.09 – 1:11.93)

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will compete in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain next weekend. The giant slalom championships will be held on Saturday and the slalom title races will run on Sunday.
