Lasers Tag Monks with 13-6 Loss

PORTLAND, ME – Lasell College (6-4, 3-1 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's (3-3, 0-3 GNAC), 13-6, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. Senior attacker Alyssa Marchant (Wakefield, MA) became the Monks' all-time leading scorer with two goals in the conference setback.

The Lasers utilized a pair of man-down goals, scored by Neila Kudla '13 (Groton, MA)in a matter of 52 seconds, in the first stanza to build a 5-3 cushion heading into the break and netted three unanswered markers in the first seven minutes of the second half to take a five-goal lead.

Emily Wight '13 (Westbrook, ME) stopped the Lasell scoring run with an unassisted goal at the 19:33 mark, but the Lasers negated the SJC tally with two goals over the following six minutes and outscored the Monks by an 8-3 margin overall in the latter half en route to the conference victory.

Marchant, with her first goal of the game at the 22:32 mark of the first half, surpassed former teammate Lauren Hagerman '10 as the program's all-time leader in points. Marchant now has 209 points with a program-best 182 goals and 27 assists in 48 career contests. Hagerman netted 130 goals and a program-record 77 assists for 207 points in 39 games over three seasons.

For the Monks, Wight scored two goals and added five ground balls, Anneka Adame '14 (San Diego, CA) registered nine draw controls, and Marchant contributed a team-high six ground balls along with her two scores. Megan Cutter '12 (Westbrook, ME) and Cassie Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME) also scored in the losing effort.

For the Lasers, Ashley Slattery '13 (Weymouth, MA) notched four goals, seven ground balls and 11 draw controls and Britney Wuorio '14 (Bolton, MA) added three goals and two assists on the night. Kudia and Chelsea Caren '11 (Redding, CT) netted a pair of goals apiece for the visitors.

Lasell netminder Kristin Coderre '11 (Monson, MA) made 11 saves while SJC keeper Haley Nason '14 (Saco, ME) recorded 12 stops for the hosts.

With the loss, St. Joe's falls to 1-3 in the history of the series with Lasell College.

Saint Joseph's will host GNAC-rival Rivier College at Deering Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 8:30 PM while Lasell plays at Simmons College in a conference tilt slated to begin at 1:00 PM Saturday.
