Saint Joseph’s Clips Colby-Sawyer, 13-6

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Junior Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) tallied four goals and three assists to help lift Saint Joseph's College (9-3, 5-1 GNAC) past Colby-Sawyer College (9-3, 5-2 GNAC), 13-6, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division women's lacrosse contest on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks had momentum on their side early, as the Royal Blue netted five goals – including a pair from Siebert – to open up a lead that would not be relinquished.

Andrea Smith finally put the Chargers on the board at the 8:15 mark, but sophomore Celia Melanson (Waterford, Maine) and Siebert closed out the first quarter scoring with the Monks leading by a 7-1 margin.

Both teams netted three goals in the second stanza as Saint Joseph's headed into intermission with a 10-4 lead. In the third quarter, Siebert and senior Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) offset goals from Colby-Sawyer's Heather Hanson and Soph Kuhlthau and Battaglia completed the scoring ledger with the lone goal – scored off a Siebert feed with 1:28 remaining - in the fourth frame.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (25-10), shots on goal (22-7), and draw controls (13-10) while Colby-Sawyer posted an advantage in ground balls (20-13) and caused turnovers (18-13).

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) made one save and allowed six goals in 45 minutes to pick up the win and junior Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) was untested while notching a pair of caused turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Chargers netminder AJ Paton made nine saves in a complete-game effort.

  • Siebert netted four goals with three assists
  • Battaglia scored four goals on eight shots with nine draw controls and two ground balls
  • Senior Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and two assists
  • Melanson contributed with a goal, an assist, and three draw controls
  • Senior Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.) picked up four ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Senior Madison Scott (Cumberland, Maine) notched three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls

LEADERS – COLBY-SAWYER:

  • Hanson scored three goals with an assist, four draw controls, and two ground balls
  • Kuhlthau, Emma Webster, Hannah Himes, and Hannah Marquis chipped in with three caused turnovers apiece

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's remains undefeated (4-0) in the history of the series with Colby-Sawyer College.
