Saint Joseph's Tops Anna Maria, Improves to 15-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College improved to 15-0 overall, and 11-0 in conference play, after defeating Anna Maria College (3-12, 1-10 GNAC), 15-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SJC grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) scored three goals in the first quarter to lift the hosts to a 4-1 lead and added a pair of tallies in the second stanza to make it an 8-1 game in favor of the Monks heading into intermission.

St. Joe's continued to dominate possession with four unanswered goals in the third period and Dexter added two more markers in the fourth frame to help account for the 15-3 final.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (41-13), shots on goal (33-9), ground balls (38-24) and draw controls (16-4) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) made one save in 30 minutes of play while first-year Mackenzie Baston (Gray, Maine) turned away five shots in the second half.

Anna Maria goalie Ashley Sheehan played very well and made 18 saves with five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Dexter netted eight goals with an assist, seven ground balls and three draw controls
  • Sophomore Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) scored two goals with three ground balls
  • Sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) added a goal and two assists with five ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Freshman Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) chipped in with a goal, two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist with three ground balls and two draw controls
  • Sophomore Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) contributed a goal, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Ashley Rufo scored two goals with five ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Alice Yokabaskas added two ground balls and three caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 5-0 in the history of the series with Anna Maria College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will play at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday in a conference contest slated to start at 6:00 PM.
