Monks Defeat Falcons, 19-1

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-2, 6-0 GNAC) cruised past Albertus Magnus College (0-8, 0-6 GNAC), 19-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks netted four goals in the opening five minutes, as grad Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) scored twice and Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) and Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) added tallies to lift the hosts to an early lead.

St. Joe's continued the scoring onslaught and held an 8-0 cushion after the first quarter. Freshman Sophia Burton (Westtown, N.Y.), Siebert, Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine), and Dexter hit pay dirt in the second stanza to provide the Monks with a 12-0 cushion heading into halftime.

Senior attack Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) put the Falcons on the board with a free-position goal at the 13:54 mark of the third quarter.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (39-12), shots on goal (30-6), ground balls (22-17), draw controls (20-3), and caused turnovers (12-9) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

The Monks split time in net as freshman Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) picked up the win after making one save in 30 minutes while sophomore Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) turned away all four shots she faced in 30 minutes of work.

Albertus Magnus senior Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.) posted 11 saves and five ground balls in a losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Dexter tallied six goals, three assists, and two ground balls
  • Clark scored three goals with two assists, three ground balls, and a pair of draw controls
  • Collins netted three goals on four shots
  • Siebert tacked on two goals and an assist with a pair of ground balls
  • Burton chipped in with two goals and an assist with two ground balls
  • Junior Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) posted a goal and four assists
  • Junior Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) scored a goal with four ground balls, 14 draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Junior Madison Scott (Cumberland, Maine) contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers

LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:

  • McGeehan scored a goal with four ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Graduate Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) added two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The Monks are now 8-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College.
