Women's Soccer Rides Six-Goal First Half to Win

RUTLAND, VT - The SJC soccer team completed a two-game road trip with its second victory of the weekend, cruising past the College of St. Joseph (VT) 8-0 on Sunday. The team improves to 7-4 while CSJ drops to 2-11-1 on the season. Seven players notched goals for St. Joe's while first-year Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) continued to rack up points scoring two goals and adding an assist.

Junior Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) put St. Joe's on the board early as she connected on a pass from Willette at 4:00. Willette followed up with a goal off an assist from senior captain Kerri Driscoll (Surry, ME) at the 11 minute mark. Senior Danielle McLaughlin (Skowhegan, ME) tallied an unassisted goal at 15:00 and first-year Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) recorded her second goal of the season as she netted a pass from senior captain Danielle Lavoie (Madawaska, ME) less than two minutes later.

Willette scored her 17th goal of the season at 25:41 and first-year Caitlin Foley (Wilmington, MA) scored her 2nd of the season to give St. Joe's a 6-0 lead off a pass from Crisp.

The second half saw offensive contributions from the SJC defense as sophomore Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) scored on a pass from Driscoll and then assisted on a goal by senior captain Danielle Somma (Gray, ME) to complete the rout.

St. Joe's dominated the match, recording 30 shots to CSJ's eight. Junior keeper Krista Wotherspoon (New Gloucester, ME) earned her third win in as many games. The Monks forced keeper Katie Chase into 11 saves while Wotherspoon needed to make just 5 for the victors.

The squad travels to Colby College on Wednesday, October 12th for a 3:00 PM match.
