FRANKLIN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (6-6-4, 6-4-4 GNAC) and Dean College (4-9-3, 3-8-3 GNAC) dueled to a 1-1 draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams found the back of the net in the first half and were unable to score for the remainder of the contest. At the 19:01 mark the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick after a Dean player was taken down in the box. Jazlyn Estrella stepped to the dot and gave her team an early 1-0 lead with a shot to the lower left corner of the net.

Sophomore Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine) tied the game at the 37:07 mark when she drilled a free kick from just outside the 18 that slipped through the hands of Dean keeper Haley Gaunt and into the top left corner.

The Monks peppered the net with shots – 11 on target and 14 overall – in the second half, but the Bulldogs managed to preserve the draw.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (26-8), shots on goal (17-4), and corner kicks (5-2) in the stalemate.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) made three saves for the visitors while the Bulldogs split the match in net, with Gaunt starting and making five saves before the break and Lexi Gerow turning away 11 shots after.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
