College junior forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) headed
in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Krista MacKinnon
(Exeter, RI) in the 70th minute to score the game-winning goal in a
2-1 victory for the Anchorwomen over Saint Joseph's.
RIC junior midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) had given RIC
the early lead, scoring on a long kick that went over the head of
Saint Joseph's first-year goalkeeper Lindsay King
(East Bridgewater, MA) in the 11th minute. The Anchorwomen held the
lead until the 48th minute when Monks' senior forward
Danielle McLaughlin (Skowhegan, ME) tied the game
up on a pass from sophomore defender Jillian Leger
(Westminster, MA).
The victory was the third straight for the Anchorwomen, who outshot
SJC 22-5. Freshman goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol, CT) made
one save to improve her record to 6-2 on the season. King made ten
stops in the losing effort.
The Lady Monks return to action at 4 PM on Wed., Sept. 28th at
UMaine-Farmington.
