ST. JOE'S WOMEN'S SOCCER ROLLS TO 8-0 WIN

STANDISH, MAINE -  Saint Joseph's College scored 8 goals as the Lady Monks cruised to an 8-0 win over visiting Thomas College in the season opener. Two first-year players, Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) and Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA), shined in a lop-sided goal-scoring show.

In the five-goal first half, Willette scored first, assisted by sophomore Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA), off a corner and 6 minutes later, Jordan dribbled middle and connected on a shot to put St. Joe's up 2-0.

Willette notched her second intercollegiate goal at 24:04 after dribbling into the box and drilling a shot. Less than thirty seconds later, Jordan headed in a cross from junior Karla Emerson (East Vassalboro, ME) for her second goal. Jordan took advantage of a loose ball in the box at 28:58 for her third goal.

Less than nine minutes into the second half, Willette had an answer for Jordan 's hat-trick and recorded one of her own on a shot from the right corner. Jordan would score again at 69:00 to take a slight advantage in the battle of the first years and put St. Joe's up 7-0 off a pass from junior Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA).

With less than four minutes to go, first-year Brittany Roche (Amherst, NH) assisted after a scramble in front of the goal and sophomore Lauren Blaha (Nashua, NH) scored.

Senior Danielle McLaughlin (Skowhegan, ME) had 4 shots and senior Kerri Driscoll (Surry, ME) added two. Sophomore Morgan Meserve (Scarborough, ME) had 3 saves for St. Joe's, but was mostly untested due to the defensive performances of seniors Danielle Somma (Gray, ME) and Danielle Lavoie (Madawaska, ME).

St. Joe's plays next at Plymouth State on September 10th at 4 PM.
