Monks Claim 3-2 Women's Soccer Win over Roger Williams

Standish, ME - Senior captain Michelle Crisp (Dedham, MA) lifted the Monks to a 3-2 win over visiting Roger Williams University with a goal in the 59th minute. St. Joe's improves to 7-4 and Roger Williams is at 8-5-1 overall.

Junior Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) got things started for the Monks in the 10th minute as she sent a perfect chip into the box. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) collected the pass and drilled the ball off Roger Williams' keeper first-year Jen Garside (Londonderry, NH). First-year Lauren Hagerman (Scarborough, ME) knocked in the rebound for her first intercollegiate goal to put St. Joe's up 1-0.

At 32:06, St. Joe's stretched the lead to 2-0 after sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) nailed a shot off the cross bar and sophomore Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) netted the rebound.

The Lady Hawks answered at 41:30 as junior Mary daCunha (Wethersfield, CT) headed in a pass from sophomore Kelly Capek (Englewood, CO) to make it 2-1.

Eight minutes into the second half, first year Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, CT) scored for Roger Williams off a pass from junior Caitlin Mayo (Merrimack, NH) to knot the score at 2-2.

Jordan set up Crisp for the game winner at 58:15 and the Monks maintained their lead for the rest of the half with first-year keeper Monica Cuda (Everett, MA) making five second half saves. Garside had five saves for the Lady Hawks.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, 10/11 with St. Joe's playing at Gordon College at 3:30 p.m. and Roger Williams playing at Anna Maria College at 4 p.m.
