Standish, ME - Nine and counting. The SJC Women's soccer team
racked up its ninth straight victory, beating Daniel Webster
College 8-0 today. The Monks improve to 9-0, 5-0 GNAC while Daniel
Webster stands at 0-7, 0-5 GNAC.
FY Mikayla Call (Portland, ME) notched a pair of
goals and five other players scored for St. Joe's in the lopsided
match.
St. Joe's took a two-goal lead into the half courtesy of an own
goal by the Eagles and a goal by JR Heather
Stanger (Rockport, MA) off a cross by SO Lauren
Hagerman (Scarborough, ME).
The Monks were on the attack in the second half as GNAC Rookie of
the Week FY Elizabeth Theberge (Danvers, MA) found
Call for a goal at 46:10. Call scored off a pass from SO
Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) to put St. Joe's up 4-0
in the fifty-third minute.
FY Whitney Linindoll (Paris, ME) netted a pass
from SO Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) at 54:02
and two minutes later FY Jessica Needham
(E.Bridgewater, MA) set-up FY Anna Flynn
(Scituate, MA) to make it 6-0.
The SJC offense was not done, as Needham connected with Stanger who
sent a perfect cross to SO Heidi Stucki (Oakland,
ME) for the seventh goal of the match. Stucki returned the favor
with a pass to Needham who beat two defenders and found the back of
the net for the final goal.
Daniel Webster keeper SO Kendra DeVore (Parsonsfield, ME) made 28
saves in the loss.
St. Joe's hosts a conference doubleheader with the men's team
versus Rivier College on Saturday, September 29th at 1:00 PM. The
men go at 3 PM.
