Standish, ME - Neither the rainy weather nor the
Albertus Magnus Falcons were enough to stop the Saint Joseph's
College Women's Soccer team in GNAC Quarterfinal play on Saturday.
The Monks rolled over the Falcons, 4-0, and were led offensively by
SO Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) who scored two goals
and added an assist. The St. Joe's defense played another
outstanding game and SO GK Katye Mayo (Fairfield,
ME) made 3 saves in the shutout victory.
Although St. Joe's was unable to convert on 3 prior corner kicks,
the team found the right combination in the 12th minute when SR
Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) took a corner kick
that SO Anna Willis headed into the back of the
net. Willis made a great run to get into the play
and score her first goal of the game to put the Monks ahead,
1-0.
Over the next 17 minutes Saint Joseph's College put 6 shots on net
but was unable to convert. SO Anna Willis (Gorham,
ME) had the best opportunity during this span when she drilled a
kick off the right post and no one was able to take advantage of
the rebound. One minute after this chance, in the 32nd minute,
Willis hit paydirt and scored her second goal of the game off a
perfect cross pass from teammate SO Brianna Jordan
(Scarborough, ME) to put the Monks up by two.
Brianna Jordan added a goal of her own to go with
her assist when she scored in the 81st minute off a cross pass from
FY Whitney Linindoll (Paris, ME). FY
Mikayla Call (Portland, ME) added a goal in the
89th minute, assisted by SO Anna Willis, to make
the final score 4-0
Saint Joseph's College will host the Emerson College Lions in a
GNAC Semi-Final game on Tuesday, 10/30. Time TBA.
