Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime Women's Soccer lost its first
match of the season, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Saint Joseph's
College Monks. The Monks carried the play for the better part of
the night, but it took them 108 minutes to put away the pesky MMA
squad.
In the non-conference match, it was the Monks who got on the
scoreboard first when Whitney Linindoll received
the ball on a corner kick from the foot of Elizabeth
Theberge and tucked it into the back of the net. The two
teams played scoreless until the 84th minute when MMA scored on a
corner kick of their own. Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield, ME) launched
a great ball to the head of Kelsi Eiane (Harpswell, ME) who didn't
miss and placed it in the far left corner to knot the score at 1-1.
Both teams went scoreless until the 108th minute when
Brianna Jordan got the game winner for the Monks
on a beautiful shot from the right side just outside the box.
St. Joe's controlled play for most of the game and out shot MMA
26-5. Lacey Jackson (York, PA) was outstanding in goal for MMA
making 7 saves on 27 shots. Katye Mayo got the win
for the Monks, making 2 saves on 5 shots.
St. Joe's travels to Boston to face GNAC foe Emerson College on
Saturday, Sept. 15 at 12:30 PM.
