Standish, ME - The Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team
won its sixth straight match this past Sunday with a 6-0 win over
Maine Presque Isle at home. FY Mikayla Call
(Portland, ME) notched two goals and four other Monks added
goals.
The Monks are off to their best start in the program's 20-year
history and are undefeated (2-0) in Great Northeast Conference
play.
St. Joe's scored four first half goals beginning with SO
Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) heading the ball into the
back of the net off a perfect cross from FY Elizabeth
Theberge (Danvers, MA) at 9:56.
Call connected on her first at 17:49 from about ten yards out off a
through ball by SO Brianna Jordan (Scarborough,
ME) to make it 2-0 and the Monks extended the lead after a corner
kick by SR captain Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA)
led to a goal by FY Anna Flynn (Scituate, MA).
Flynn found Call with a cross in the thirty-seventh minute and Call
beat the keeper with a shot to the bottom right of the net to make
it 4-0 going into the break.
The Owls regrouped and held the Monks scoreless over the first
fifteen minutes of the second half, but SO Lauren
Hagerman (Scarborough, ME) set up SO Heidi
Stucki (Oakland, ME) for the fifth goal of the game.
FY Whitney Linindoll (Paris, ME) closed out the
scoring with a shot from outside the box in the 71st minute.
The Monks travel to Newton, Mass. on to take on GNAC opponent Mount
Ida College at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, September 19th.
