2008 Women's Soccer Awards Announced

STANDISH, ME - Lady Monks Head Soccer Coach Michael Bolanz '00 has announced the 2008 team award winners. The Saint Joseph's coaching staff selected individuals to receive five awards: MVP, "Golden Boot," Most Improved, Unsung Hero and Impact Player.

The 2008 Most Valuable Player Award goes to two-time captain Katie Jordan '09 (Sandwich, MA). The GNAC Second Team All-Conference recipient led the Lady Monks with five game-winning goals and ranked second on the team in goals (10) and points (26) in '08. Jordan completed her impressive four-year career with 32 goals and 76 points, which rank as the sixth and seventh highest totals, respectively, in program history. Jordan also was presented with the 2006 MVP award after netting 8 goals and 18 points that season and garnered 2005 Rookie of the Year honors with 12 goals and 26 points as a freshman.

For the second consecutive season Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME/McAuley) takes home the coveted "Golden Boot Award," which annually goes to the player who paces the team in goals. Call, a repeat First-Team All-Conference honoree, scored 14 goals in 2008 to net the third-highest total in the GNAC.

Whitney Linindoll '11 (Paris, ME) has been named as the team's Most Improved Player. The sophomore helped anchor the Royal Blue defense, which allowed 1.38 goals per game, fourth best in the conference.

The Unsung Player Award goes to Heather Stanger '09 (Rockport, MA). Stanger split time between the midfielder and forward positions in 2008 and, in four years, collected 13 goals and 32 points in 72 games. The Unsung Player Award is her second and third team award overall, as Stanger collected the Most Improved Award as a freshman in 2005.

Anna Willis '10 (Gorham, ME) received the "Impact Player Award," which goes to the player who consistently makes the biggest impact on the field and provides the team with intangibles that may not show in the boxscore. The junior ranked fourth on the team in goals (5) and points (12) despite capably playing half the season as a back due to injuries.
