WINDHAM, ME - The St. Joe's Women's Soccer team closed out the regular season with a 4-1 victory over University of Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon at Windham High School. Lauren Hagerman '10 (Scarborough, ME) collected a goal and an assist to help the Monks erase an early one-goal deficit and improve to 11-5-2 overall, while the Huskies drop to 5-12 with the result.

Catherine Wise '13 (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cheverus) put the Huskies up 1-0 with a goal in the 31^st minute of play. Heidi DeHaan '11 (Lewiston, ME) set up the play with a crossing pass from the right side at close range and Wise beat a diving Katye Mayo '10 (Fairfield, ME) to provide the visitors with the lead.

St. Joe's would go on to score four unanswered goals, three in the second half, to secure the victory over Southern Maine.

Hagerman answered the tally by notching her first goal of the season two minutes later. Shannon Fitzgerald '12 (Amesbury, MA) delivered the ball into the box on a corner kick attempt, and Hagerman headed the ball into the top of the net off a USM defender to knot the game at one apiece.

The stalemate held up until the 55^th minute when Brianna Jordan '10 (Scarborough, ME) collected her sixth goal, and third game-winner of the season, off a crisp pass, right to left, inside the box from Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME/McAuley). Somehow, Jordan and Call crept behind the USM defenders, leaving Huskies keeper Alison Bradley '10 (Auckland, New Zealand) all alone to fend for herself.

Anna Willis '10 (Gorham, ME) doubled the SJC lead 10 minutes later on a lead crossing pass from Hagerman that sent her in on goal all alone inside the box. Willis quickly collected the ball and scored into the top right corner past Bradley, making the score 3-1.

After three consecutive goals by the senior class, it was time for the youth movement to provide some offense. Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, ME) entered the game for Willis and scored just a minute later to extend the Monks' lead to 4-1. Bradley left the net to collect an errant lead pass at the 18, but Emily Wight '13 (Westbrook, ME) stripped the ball and dished a pass to Chambers, who proceeded to boot the ball into a wide open net for her fifth goal of the season.

Saint Joseph's outshot Southern Maine 19-7 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks in the victory. Bradley made seven stops in goal for the Huskies, while Mayo recorded four saves for the Monks.

The victory caps another successful regular season for Saint Joseph's, which earned the top seed in the GNAC Tournament, scheduled to begin this Sunday, opponent and time TBD. USM will wrap up the 2009 campaign when the Huskies travel to Keene State on Saturday for a 1:30 PM LEC contest.
