BANGOR, ME - Husson University (9-3) defeated Saint
Joseph's (5-3-1, 5-0-1 GNAC), 5-0, in non-conference women's soccer
action on Wednesday afternoon. Katye
Mayo '10 (Fairfield, ME) made eight saves in the
loss.
Shelby Bradford '10 (Lee, ME) scored twice and added a pair of
assists and Katelyn Coultier '12 (Groventown, NH) chipped in with
two tallies for Husson on a cold and rainy afternoon in Bangor.
The Eagles started the game scoring early as Coultier put the hosts
on the board at the 3:30 mark off a Bradford dish. Kylan Smith '10
(Presque Isle, ME) doubled the Husson lead 28 minutes later after
collecting a loose ball in the box. Meg Clement '11 (Brunswick, ME)
registered an assist on the goal, which capped the first-half
scoring with the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Mayo started the second stanza by making a big
save on a Bradford attempt, but Husson proved too much for the
Royal Blue to handle on this day, as the Eagles scored two goals in
a two-minute span prior to the 60th minute of play to put the game
away. Bradford added her second marker of the game in the 88th
minute off a corner to close out the scoring.
Husson outshot St. Joe's, 23-12, and held a decided 6-0 advantage
in corner kicks in the victory. Keeper Jen Plourde '10 (Howland,
ME) recorded eight saves in net for the Eagles.
Emily Wight '13 (Westbrook, ME)
led the Monks with four shots in a losing effort.
St. Joe's will play host to GNAC rival Norwich University on
Saturday at 1:00 PM, while Husson will travel to Green Mountain
College on Saturday for a 1:00 PM conference contest.
