Monks Bounce Beavers, 4-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's improved to 2-0 with a 4-0 victory over University of Maine-Farmington (0-1-1) at Westerlea Way Field on Thursday afternoon. Jessica Capozzi '14 (Saugus, MA) scored two goals in the Monks' triumph.

Rarely-tested SJC keeper Jackie Lorenzen '14 (Windham, ME) made four saves in her second shutout win in as many games, while Beavers netminder Crystal Johnson '12 (Cornville, ME) recorded six stops in the UMF loss. Saint Joseph's has now recorded back-to-back shutouts to start a season for the second time in team history - the Monks blanked Maine-Machias and Husson to start the 1998 season under Head Coach David Roussel.

Jessica Needham '11 (East Bridgewater, MA) started the game scoring by completing a perfectly placed corner off the foot of Elizabeth Theberge '11 (Danvers, MA) in the 14th minute. Capozzi finished a right-to-left crossing pass from Cassie Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME) in the 36th minute to collect her first collegiate goal and added her second NCAA marker, unassisted, nine minutes later to lift the Royal Blue to a 3-0 cushion.

For Needham, the game-clincher was the 9th of her career and ties the program's all-time record for winning tallies. Megan Willette registered nine winning scores in two seasons (2005-06) while at St. Joe's.

Mikayla Call '11 (Portland, ME/McAuley) capped the game scoring 10 minutes into the second half with her second goal of the 2010 campaign. Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, ME) registered an assist with a nice cross pass to set up the play.

St. Joe's will host GNAC-rival Emerson College on Saturday at 2:30 PM, while UMF will resume play on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
