Monks and Cadets Duel to 1-1 Deadlock

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College (1-1-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) and Norwich University (2-0-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) played to a 1-1 tie in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday afternoon.

All of the scoring occurred in the first half as Danielle Daigle '15 (Dayton, Maine) netted her first NCAA goal off a Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, Maine) feed at the 12:37 mark and Cadets junior Brittany Casey (Pointe-Claire, Que.) answered less than 22 minutes later with an unassisted tally to knot the game.

Both sides had opportunities during the remainder of the match but neither squad would give as the defensive style of play and the efforts of the two goalkeepers – Monks sophomore Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) and Cadets second-year Liz Chapdelaine (Somerset, Mass.) – resulted in zero goals over the final 76 minutes.

Norwich held sizeable cushions in shots (18-11) and corner kicks (9-1) while St. Joe's was hit with 15 fouls to the Cadets' 10 on the afternoon.

The tie was the 12th for Monks Head Coach Michael Bolanz '00 – the SJC Athletics all-time leader in deadlock contests. Coach Bolanz, who registered three stalemates in two seasons as the men's soccer leader, now has experienced nine tie matches as the women's soccer skipper.

Saint Joseph's and Norwich have played each other six times in this history of the series and the sides are dead even in just over four years as conference counterparts: two wins, two losses and two ties.

Both teams will host GNAC games this Wednesday when St. Joe's is set to play Suffolk at 4:00 PM and Norwich takes on Emmanuel College at 3:30 PM.
