Women's Soccer Topples Pine Manor, 9-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (3-2-2, 2-1-2 GNAC) defeated Pine Manor College (1-6, 1-4 GNAC), 9-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at Westerlea Way Field on Sunday afternoon. Freshman forward Doe Leckie (Naples, Maine) netted a pair of goals and an assist in the lopsided triumph.

In all, eight different players found the back of the net for St. Joe's, which set new single-game records for shots (55) and corner kicks (16) versus the Gators. Senior back Katelyn Call (Portland, Maine/McAuley) and freshman forward Emily Hannon (Quincy, Mass.) both recorded their first NCAA markers in the win.

Katherine Chambers '13 (Hampden, Maine) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally on a breakaway at the 3:12 mark of the first half. Leckie followed with her first goal of the game off a Laura Dimillo '14 (Portland, Maine) feed and Jessica Capozzi '14 (Saugus, Mass.) punched home the Monks' third goal – her first of the year - of the afternoon 29 seconds later on another breakaway attempt.

Ashley Beaulieu '14 (Durham, Maine) put the hosts ahead by four with a goal - her first of the season - off a corner kick at the 34:20 mark. Leckie was credited with an assist on the play as the Monks carried the 4-0 advantage into intermission.

Emily Cocciardi '14 (Middletown, Mass.) found the back of the net six minutes into the second stanza on a corner kick attempt and Leckie added her second marker of the afternoon off a Sam Peters '15 (Gorham, Maine) in the 55th minute of play.

Hannon collected her first collegiate tally, a one-timer shot off a corner kick bid, at the 62:32 mark and Dimillo made it an 8-0 game with a score less than four minutes later. Beaulieu recorded assists on both goals.

Finally, Call closed out the game scoring with her first college goal – a shot from the top of the 18 that found the top right corner of the net at the 79:16 mark. Both head coaches agreed to call the game after the ninth Saint Joseph's goal.

Goalkeepers Jaci Lorenzen '14 (Windham, Maine) and Alison Perrin '15 (Westerly, R.I.) – who made her first collegiate appearance this afternoon - manned the goal for the Monks but neither was tested as the Gators failed to record a shot in the loss.

Pine Manor netminder Natasha Kopystynsky '14 (Johnsburg, Ill.) made a whopping 23 saves in the conference setback, the most stops posted by an SJC opponent since Mitchell College keeper Katie Carlson notched 25 in a 13-0 loss at the hands of the Monks on October 30th, 2005.

For Saint Joseph's, nine goals scored is the most in a game since the Royal Blue defeated Pine Manor by a 9-2 margin on October 20th, 2007. The 13 goals scored against Mitchell late in the 2005 campaign ranks as the program record for markers in a game.

With the victory, St. Joe's improves to 5-0 in the history of the series with Pine Manor.

Saint Joseph's will play at Simmons College in a conference contest on Wednesday at 7:00 PM while Pine Manor hosts Mills College on Friday at 4:00 PM.
