2012 Women's Soccer Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College women's soccer Head Coach Michael Bolanz '00 has announced his team captains for the 2012 season.

Rising seniors Casey Monaghan (Portland, Maine/Portland) and Jennifer Keaney (Scituate, Mass.) return for their second season as team captains while Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) and Jessica Capozzi (Saugus, Mass.) will serve as extensions of the coaching staff for the first time next fall.

Monaghan, one of the Monks' top defensive players, started in 15 games last season. "Casey proved herself as a leader last year as one of our two junior captains," adds Coach Bolanz. "We will look to Casey to anchor our backline and show real leadership going into next season."

Keaney, a swing player as a forward/midfielder, was one of four SJC players to start all 17 games in 2011 and tallied a goal and two assists as a junior. "Jen gained valuable experience last year as a junior captain and I feel she is ready to take that next step as a senior captain to help lead this team," says Coach Bolanz. "Her tenacious attitude on the field will allow her to lead by example and hopefully all of the underclassmen take notice."

Lorenzen, a 2011 Second Team All-Conference selection, has served as the Monks' starting keeper in each of the last two seasons, starting all 34 of the side's contests while posting a 1.43 goals against average and a .777 save percentage with 10 shutouts in her career. "As one of our two junior captains next year, I expect Jaci to be a strong, vocal leader who will be able to lead this team from her position as goalkeeper," states Coach Bolanz. "She has taken great strides in her leadership abilities and I think she will do very well as a captain."

Capozzi, a forward, appeared in all 17 games - with 10 starts - and netted a goal and an assist for the Royal Blue last fall. "Her attitude, work rate, and personality are all of the traits you look for in a captain," says Coach Bolanz. "As a junior, I think she will be able to mature into that position successfully and be able to lead this team going forward."

Last year, Saint Joseph's went 7-5-5 overall and 6-3-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play under Coach Bolanz, who will be entering his ninth season as the Monks' sideline general this fall.
