Wildcat Slip Past Monks, 1-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-7-0, 4-3-0 GNAC) fell to Johnson & Wales University (7-5-1, 5-2-1 GNAC), 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at Westerlea Way Field on Saturday afternoon.

THE LEAD

A goal scored by Johnson & Wales sophomore Kyra Selner (Sterling, Va.) was the only offense produced by either team in the conference contest. Freshman Mallory Buys (Harwinton, Conn.) found Selner unmarked just inside the 18, and the second-year forward completed the play with a strike to the lower left side of the net. St. Joe's sophomore keeper Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) left her post to challenge, but Selner slipped the shot just under the SJC goalie's outstretched arms.

With a season-low six shots in the loss, the Monks had few chances to grab a share of the lead. The hosts' best opportunity came at the 17:42 mark of the first half, when senior Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) clanged a shot off the post.

THE KEEPERS

Troup totaled eight saves in the losing bid for the Monks while senior goalie Alex Place (East Greenwich, R.I.) was forced to make just a pair of stops to post her third shutout of the season.

TEAM TOTALS

Johnson & Wales owned leads in both shots (19-6) and corners (6-0) on the afternoon. A total of 12 fouls were called in the GNAC tilt, with nine being dealt to the Wildcats.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

St. Joe's is now 2-3-4 all-time against JWU and has not scored in either of the past two meetings between the conference counterparts.

Saint Joseph's travels to Mount Ida College (2-7-4, 0-5-1 GNAC) for a 12:00 PM GNAC match on Monday.
