PORTLAND, Maine – Johnson & Wales University (3-0-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) topped Saint Joseph's College (1-2-0, 0-1-0 GNAC), 2-0, in what was the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both programs in women's soccer action at Deering Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The conference rivals played scoreless until the 36th minute, when Johnson & Wales sophomore midfielder Molly McCormack (Livingston, N.J.) found the back of the net off an Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) corner kick. The Wildcats doubled their lead just over eight minutes later, when junior Deja Hursey (Columbia, Md.) buried a one-timer off a Kyra Seiner (Sterling, Va.) cross.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's senior Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made four saves in a losing effort while JWU sophomore Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) notched three stops in a shutout performance.

TEAM STATS:

Johnson & Wales held advantages in shots (14-6), shots on goal (6-3), and corner kicks (4-2) on the evening.

NOTEWORTHY:

• Junior Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) and freshman Kenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) accounted for 2/3 of the Monks' shots with two apiece
• JWU sophomore midfielder Cat Nolan (Center Moriches, N.Y.) led all players with four shots

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 2-7-4 all-time versus Johnson & Wales University, a team the Monks have not defeated since September 14th, 2013. The Wildcats have now defeated the Monks in five-consecutive meetings.
