SJC Golfers Fourth after Opening Day of GNAC Championships

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - With a 350 team score, the Saint Joseph's College Golf team sits in fourth place after the first day of the GNAC Championships, held at the Allendale Country Club. Michael Patrick '11 (Wells, ME) carded an 84 to lead the SJC quartet and is currently in a tie for 10th place overall.

Johnson & Wales holds a 10 stroke lead over Rhode Island College after carding a collective 315 on the opening day. JWU participant Bobby Newcomb closed out the action with a three-over par 75 to sit atop the individual standings. Teammate Steve LeDonne is in second after carding a 77 on Saturday.

Matt Cotreau '10 (Lunenberg, MA) shot an 86 for the Monks and T.J. Garske '12 (Federal Way, WA) notched an 87 on the 6735 yard course.

Saint Joseph's placed fifth in the GNAC Championships last fall. Newcomb earned medalist honors in 2008 and JWU is seeking its third-consecutive conference title.  

The final day of the tourney kicks off on Sunday morning, with USM, Suffolk and Emmanuel teeing off at 9:57 AM. JWU, Rhode Island College, UMass-Dartmouth and St. Joe's will tee off at 10:42 AM.
