PORTLAND, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's golf team kicked off the 2023 campaign with a second place finish, and 316 team card, in the Southern Maine Tri-Match at Riverside Golf Course on Friday afternoon. Junior Drew Mathieu (Windham, Maine) claimed the seventh Medalist honor of his college career with one-over par 73 card.
Southern Maine won the event with a 311 team score after featuring three players with sub-80 cards. UMaine-Farmington rounded out the scoring with a 344 team card.
MONKS SCORECARD:
- Mathieu turned in a 73 (+1) to eclipse the 19-player field
- Freshman Caleb Campos (Port Charlotte, Fla.) tied for fifth with a 79 card
- First-year Braden Camire (Saco, Maine) tied for eighth with an 81
- Sophomore Nick DeLeo (Saco, Maine) placed 11th with an 83 score
- Sophomore Dante Ceppetelli (Dover, N.H.) shot a 90 and finished 15th
- Juniors Alex Beecher (South Portland, Maine) and Colby Gamache (Goffstown, N.H.) played as non-scoring individuals and posted 85 and 96 cards, respectively

Saint Joseph's will host the 20th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at the Point Sebago Golf Resort on Wednesday, September 6th. The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.
