Monks Place Seventh in USM Cup

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The Saint Joseph's Golf team carded a collective 349 score to earn a sixth place finish in the University of Southern Maine Cup, held at Sable Oaks Golf Course on Monday. Matt Cotreau '10 (Lunenberg, ME) shot an 80 on the day to finish in a tie for eighth individually.

The Husson University Eagles won the team championship with total of 314 strokes. Husson's Kevin Byrne earned individual medalist honors with an outstanding three-over-par 73 on the 6,359 yard course. Endicott College placed second with a 319 followed my UMaine Farmington in third with 323. The University of New England edged out Southern Maine for fourth place with a score of 329 in the eight team event.

T.J. Garske '12 (Federal Way, WA) shot an 88 and Steve Sands '10 (Westbrook, ME) carded a 90 for the Monks, who will next play on Friday in the Southern Maine cup at 11:30 AM at Sable Oaks in South Portland. The Southern Maine Cup features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, followed by six holes of scramble format and finally six holes of alternate shot golf.
