Golf Team Finishes Fifth at UMF Invitational

FARMINGTON, ME – Husson University captured the University of Maine-Farmington Invitational for the 10th consecutive season with a 320 team score at Sunday River Golf Club Thursday.

Bowdoin also carded a 320, but the fifth-player tiebreaker provided the Eagles with their closest victory at the UMF Invite. The Beavers placed third with a 325 tally, while University of New England (329), Saint Joseph's (332), Southern Maine (339), Bates (366) and Maine Maritime (379) closed out the eight-team field.

Farmington's Nick Waltz (Damariscotta, ME) collected medalist honors with a three-over-par 75 and Bowdoin's Max Bridges (Omaha, NE) carded a 76 to place second. Mike Hersey (Presque Isle, ME) of Husson finished third with a 77 effort.

Jake Brown '13 (Lewiston, ME) and Kevin Richardson '14 (Coventry, CT) posted identical 41-40-81 scores, while T.J. Garske '12 (Federal Way, WA) put up an 82 (38-44) performance. Ebb Walton '12 (Blue Hill, ME) carded a 88 (46-42) and Michael Patrick '11 (Wells, ME) rounded out the SJC competitors with an 89 (46-43) on the day.

For the Monks, the 332 score was the lowest 18-hole effort since the Royal Blue linkers notched a 313 at the 2008 UNE Invitational and the best mark at the UMF event since 2006 (327).

All eight teams are scheduled to compete at the State of Maine Championships Friday and Saturday at the Boothbay Country Club. Tee-time is set for 10:00 AM both days.
